My Latest Acquisitions

I’m always on the lookout for funky and interesting items with which to decorate my studio. I love the idea of having random things displayed in random ways all over the place. It’s a big space so it’ll be a fun on-going project that’ll just grow and grow.

I’d love it if in the end it resembled part-studio/part-gallery!…. I want people who come work here to feel like they’ve had an experience, and to go away feeling glad they’ve been, to wanna come back, and to hopefully tell others to come shoot here.

I check auction sites and online marketplaces, but I also occasionally attend auctions and wander round flea-markets and junk/charity shops. The items don’t need to be big or small, cheap or expensive, they don’t have to make sense or fit a pattern or scheme. They just need to catch my eye and mood.

The main reason I stumble across these things at the moment especially, is that I’m always searching for props for sets. This week I bought three 8ft columns and pick up another two tomorrow so expect a Greek/Roman style set soon!

I spotted this battered old mannequin torso & head on one site recently and fell in weird love with her. She only set me back £10, even though I had quite a drive into the country to pick her up.

When I arrived to collect, the lady selling was a tad hesitant to let her go because it turns out she was an original Adel Rootstein (Google her) and was worth quite a bit. She honoured her listing price and I got a real bargain. Yeah, I know she’s a wee bit tatty around the edges, but she’s a perfect piece of art to me and will adorn my studio wall for years to come.
